Klaus Damm:
Interdisciplinary Paths to Art
For my artistic work I use a wide spectrum of media, methods and forms, which I often combine across disciplines.
This gives rise to photographic image compositions, visiographies as complex image montages of photographed material, and video compositions that build on them, electronic music as well as language art – all in manifold interconnections.
I received my training in the visual arts from the Informel painter Hans-Jürgen Schlieker at the RUB. I then studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and electronic composition with Dirk Reith at the Folkwang Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Tanz (today: Folkwang Universität der Künste). In 1978 I became the first composer to be awarded the “Folkwangpreis”.
These different artistic experiences flow into my photo art projects. I see them both as an independent form of expression and, in further creative steps, as material for my sound-image compositions (YouTube and www.visible-music.de).
